SUPERB TECHNOLOGY
Another Bihler solution engineered by the SUPERB team feeds brass and silver to the Bihler system and converts these strips into an assembly ready engineered component. This integrated solution eliminates numerous separate operations and combines them into one. The brass strip is fed, extruded, formed, coined, and tapped in one process. Concurrently, the silver is fed and cut to the correct size, then transferred and welded to the brass terminal.
If this sounds like a lot of steps being combines into one operation, it is! However, it does not reduce process output. In fact it enhances it. This Bihler process runs at the incredible speed of 12,000 finished components per hour.
A thermostatic contact assembly requires a productivity boost to maintain global competitiveness. The assembly consists of a nickel plated steel terminal, a stainless steel flat spring, a beryllium copper spring, and a silver contact.
The customer’s original process design manufactured each of these components on a separate process and then finally combined them all in multiple assembly cells. A total of 13 direct people were needed to manufacture the 11 million assemblies needed to meet global demand.
The SUPERB Bihler solution combined all these operations into one integrated process to produce all the component parts and weld the assembly with an hourly output of 7,600 finished assemblies. Not only was the manufacturing reduced to about 400 square feet, the entire global demand can be met using two direct people with manufacturing capacity to spare.
Bruderer machinery allows SUPERB to maximize manufacturing processes, especially punching technology.
These high speed stamping presses increase the speed of the manufacturing process and decrease the amount of material used. Bruderer high performance automatic stamping presses with a high speed of 1,500 SPM, deliver flexibility and stability for tight tolerances and near net shape manufacturing. With an electronic process monitoring system and material width up to 6.5 inches and a material gauge of 0.125 inch maximum.
SUPERB Industries has the following Bruderer manufacturing technology:
- Three 75-ton presses
- Seven 30-ton presses
The SUPERB laser lab has a fully functional IPG Photonics YLS-5000 laser with nominally 5000W near infrared fiber optic laser used for welding and cutting. Our laser lab can be configured to run trials on material that can be integrated into production processes.
SUPERB’s CNC machining offers unmatched results. Whether it’s creating prototypes, product molds, or tooling, our machining provides customers with high quality products and unbeatable craftsmanship. Combining the latest conventional turning equipment and Surfcam, an advanced programming software, SUPERB’s experienced machinists deliver precision parts to exact customer specifications.
SUPERB’s CNC mills and surface grinder produce advanced machining capabilities, including CNC vertical machining and prototyping.
SUPERB has two three-axis CNC mills; a Mori Seiki and a Doosan with a through spindle coolant. A Chevalier CNC wet surface grinder completes the machining trio.
Designing a prototype on in SolidWorks and other computer programs provides a great deal of detail and the ability to visualize the concept. However, having the ability to produce an actual prototype that you can hold in your hand, takes engineering to the next level.
SUPERB uses the MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer to take a 3D computer model to a realistic high resolution prototype and model. The seamless workflow process and quick true-to-life production enables SUPERB engineers and designers to provide models to customers during the initial concept phrase of a project.
SUPERB uses a sophisticated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system as its business process management software. The ERP system allows SUPERB to use a system of integrated applications to manage the business and automate many functions related to technology, services, and human resources. The program integrates all facets of an operation, including product planning, development, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.
